Everybody Welcome!

Everybody Welcome!

“Welcome to NZ, Hailey & Ellen” – “Ditto Chappy & Jachin” – “Welcome Steph + Lindsey” – “But most of all Steven”

Yesterday, the Three Bush Markers on Titirangi’s roundabout suffered a case of “welcome overload”. See also Sideswipe.

This is the location according to Google maps. Note that the roundabout is rendered incorrectly: Huia Road branches off the roundabout, between Titirangi Road and Scenic Drive.

The cone of Te Komoki (map) rises to 148 metres above the settlement of Little Huia  and is also known as Jackie Peak. It forms the western headland of Huia Bay, opposite of Huia Point.

Te Komoki features in an artwork by Don Binney: Toreapango, Te Komoki (2008) depicting an oystercatcher flying across Huia Bay.

The Waima Stone in Christmas Attire

In the weeks before Christmas, this stone marking the Waima community found itself adorned with Christmas glitter.

The stone, complete with bench seat, was sculpted by local stonemason Kelynge Lucas England, and put into place at the top end of Woodlands Bay Road during 2009.
