Avondale Lions Club

It looks like a church – and it was originally a church (Church of Christ), built 1910. When it was no longer used as a church (from the 1950’s), it fell into disrepair and in 1973 the Ministry of Works appointed the Avondale Lions Club as custodians of the building. Great efforts were made to restore the building to the original plans, and in 1977 the refurbished hall was opened by the mayor of Auckland, Sir Dove-Myer Robinson. The hall is at the intersection of Great North Road and Blockhouse Bay Road (map).

  1. Such a pretty, neat building and grounds.

  2. I thought it looked like a church. Very interesting history and a lovely, charming structure. I’m glad the Lions were able to restore and use it again.
