Painted Boxes: Kelp and Snapper

(Wednesday is for painted boxes.)

This transformer is at Bethells Beach, on Auckland’s West Coast. Painted by an unidentified artist, it depicts kelp and snapper – appropriate for the coastal location.

  2. I’m planning to tell the people in charge at the cultural centre in Haninge about this project, because the boxes over here are not works of art!

  3. Love it! And I still wish Metro Manila would have a project like this.

  4. Good idea, Steffe! Actually, the capital of painted traffic signal boxes appears to be Brisbane (Queensland, Australia). Cara’s Brisbane Daily Photo has a nice collection, but the Brisbane City Council themselves have an excellent website for their Artforce Project, documenting over 1500 items!

Another site I found is the category of Artistically Painted Utility Boxes at waymarking.com, showing examples from all over the world.

Best wishes, and thank you all for your comments.
