Painted Boxes: Ark in the Park

(Wednesday is for painted boxes.)

A different painted box for a change, probably a School Bus shelter. It greets the visitor turning from Te Henga Road into Falls Road, on the way to the Cascades Kauri Park (map). We see an abundance of birdlife, illustrating the purpose of the “Ark in the Park“. This is a community restoration project by the Forest and Bird Society in association with the Auckland Regional Council. With volunteer support, pests and predators (rats, stoats and wild cats) of the Cascades Kauri Park are controlled, and bird species re-introduced which once called this area home. Stitchbirds (hihi), North Island robins, kokako and whiteheads have already been relocated to the area.
