This kereru (NZ Wood Pigeon, Hemiphaga novaeseelandiae) is resting on the branch of a ti tree, having gorged itself on the berries of our neighbour’s puriri tree behind it.

It’s a handsome pigeon. Do these pigeons perch on city buildings like the pigeons we have in North America?
@ EG Wow, Canada: Thanks for your comment. Kereru live in bush environment, also in some bush enclaves in the city suburbs. But they are not “street birds” like the ubiquitous rock pigeon.
