The tide is rising, and soon the birds will have to move. These are variable oystercatchers (Haematopus unicolor), a species occurring in New Zealand only. In the background the Ngunguru sandspit.

Oystercatchers, catching oyster crackers?
I’ve looked at almost all the photos in the “weekend relections” today and I think this one if my favorite. The grouping of the birds is great. their personality is amazing… Very nice!
