White-fronted Tern Feeding its Chick

While gannet numbers at Muriwai seem to be well below the usual, it appears that the terns are thriving. There were good numbers of adults and chicks on the sand in Maori Bay as well as in the slopes between the viewing platforms. (White-fronted terns, sterna striata)

The adult flew in with the fish in its bill, found the chick among the roosting birds and in the blink of an eye fed the chick and was gone again.
