Stairs in the Guardian Building

Stairs in the Guardian Building

The New Zealand Guardian Trust Building is a stately old building at 101-107 Queen Street in Auckland’s CBD, with a category 1 heritage listing. It is now transformed into mainly apartments. On the first floor is a branch of PB Technologies (dealers in all things computers), and it is always an experience to go up these stairs of a bygone age. Here they are in black and white.

Also at the same address, in the basement, is “The Guardian Vault“, where you can hire safe deposit boxes. I don’t think my camera would have been welcome there…

  1. Category 1 heritage listing means that council will give a developer consent to tear it down and build something ugly, right?

  2. Stairways were so much more attractive back then. I really like the angle of this shot.
