The Great Kiwi Bake-Off

The Great Kiwi Bake-Off

The brainchild of Glenn Browne, the Great Kiwi Bake-Off was a fundraiser, held yesterday, for earthquake relief in Christchurch, with proceeds going to the Red Cross.

The simple idea was that as many as possible bake up a storm on Sunday, bring the results to QEII Square on Monday morning, and everybody can purchase goodies for morning tea or lunch by donation. The response, from businesses and individuals, was overwhelming, so much so that Glenn had to devote several days to the logistics of the event. An army of volunteers, dressed for the occasion, attended a good number of tables on Queen Elizabethh II Square, laden with delicious goods.

The weather was brilliant, and it all went well — as far as I could see (and taste!), anyway.

Check out Michelle’s Christchurch Daily Photo blog for a first hand account of life after the earthquake (still no power).
