Mainly West of Queen Street - seen through my lens

The Whau River

Whau River

Whau River

The Whau River is a tidal estuary which reaches inland from the tip of the Rosebank Road peninsula to Avondale and New Lynn. Here we see it in the outgoing tide, mangroves on both banks. A boardwalk through the mangroves is out of sight behind the trees at right of the picture. The picture is taken from the Ash Street/Rata Street bridge, I see it often as I hurry through by car.

Timespanner has an interesting study of the history of the name Whau.

On, my goodness. This is my kind of shot. I love it. All the darker colors and the reflections make for an awesome capture. I wish I had been there to see it in person. Beautiful photography.
