On Monday, I had my first visit to Muriwai for this season. In glorious sunshine. Plenty of gannets on the nesting platforms and in the air, also crowds of white-fronted terns, and some gulls (plus a couple of seals sleeping on the foot of Motutara Island). The shot above combines two major attractions of Muriwai: gannets and surf.

  1. Surfers I know, but I have to research the bird now. Beautiful creature in flight as you photographed it.

  3. Quite a unique photograph to combine the Gannets and the Muriwai surfers!
The light in the head and eye is fantastic.
I’m really glad that the Gannets are back this year and in good numbers!
