The Tongan Rugby team may be out of the Rugby World Cup (“‘Ikale Tahi” – the Sea Eagles – they beat finalists France 19-14!), but their pride lives on, with Tongan flags widely seen, and here with the band members proudly wearing the colours.
Last Saturday evening this band of maybe 20 players were tucked into the entrance to the ANZ on Karangahape Road, entertaining the thousands of fans who headed towards Eden Park along the Fan Trail. The game was Wales vs France, and it is understandable that the band’s supporters felt as honorary Welsh. Well done Tonga for adding so much colour and spirit to the occasion!
(Results of the weekend: France-Wales 9:8, New Zealand-Australia 20:6.)
