The Hindu festival of Diwali (Festival of Light – the triumph of light over darkness) was last Wednesday, followed by New Years (year 2068 of the Vikrama calendar) on Thursday. At the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Avondale the festivities were observed on the weekend, and my friends Amar and Dee kindly invited me to the occasion. A feast for all senses.

(There were a number of Diwali celebrations in various parts of Auckland throughout October.)

  1. Gorgeous photos! What a lush and interesting display! I have seen Diwali referred to but not known its meaning. Thank you for solving that mystery.
