Bartlettina Sordida

This flower, Bartlettina Sordida, originates from Mexico, but appears to be quite at home in New Zealand. Described as an “environmental weed”, it has the potential to be invasive. The plant can grow to 3-4m in height, with big, slightly rough leaves structured with purplish veins. After a stormy winter these leave might look a bit tattered, maybe that’s where the sordid part of the name comes from. They are presently in flower, a joy to behold.
