Newly Hatched Passion Vine Hopper

Following on from the previous post, these pictures show a passion vine hopper that has just left its nymphal shell, resplendent in a beautiful white attire. After about half an hour, the wings and body will have hardened and the white will be replaced by brown.

Considering the number of these sap suckers (scolypopa australis), I am surprised that I have been able to observe the metamorphosis only on very few occasions — always with admiration.

  1. Paul I’d seen these images yesterday and I came back today to look at them once more because they are truly stunning. I’ve never seen anything like it in real life and would love to.
For once I’ll use the most common phrase of all but which I feel strongly about today: THANKS FOR SHARING !
