London Plane Trees

London plane trees surround the vast sports grounds and playing fields of Victoria Park in Freemans Bay. In the 19th century, the waters of the Waitemata Harbour reached another 50 or so meters to the left in this picture. But a major reclamation project, completed early last century produced the level areas of Victoria Park and the marine precinct of the Wynyard Quarter. These beautiful trees date back to the opening of the park.

  1. I’ve always liked these trees. Quite the opposite of “ornate”, in fact….
