Our generous hosts in Ladenburg, Christine and Hannes, took us to the Schlossgarten in Schwenningen. An extensive park, inspired as it seems by the gardens of Versailles. Apart from the sharply trimmed alleys of trees and geometric layouts in the French style, there are also more natural “English” gardens. The palace was the summer residence of the Palatine Electors, the gardens created between 1743 and 1778 under Prince Elector Carl Theodor who employed well-renowned gardeners for the project.
