Fruiting Kahikatea

Right now the kahikatea trees (Podocarpus dacrydioides, commonly referred to as “white pine” – even thought’s not a pine) are fruiting; and some of the trees in our neighbourhood are laden with the ‘cones’. Trouble is, these are tall trees and the showiest part are up there.

There is a simple way to admire them close up (and get colourful pictures): the platforms at the Arataki Visitor Centre are well above ground level, and one of their kahikateas is right there at eye level and up.
