Manawa wetlands in New Lynn (Margan Ave) is a system of ponds designed to provide natural filtration for runoff water before it enters the Rewarewa Stream, and thence flows out into the Whau River and Waitemata Harbour.
Alas, after months of fine weather, there is not much that can be filtered, and a place that is otherwise teeming with ducks looks a bit lifeless.…

Another giant sculpture from the Gibbs Farm. Its full title is “Pyramid (Keystone NZ)”. Built from standard concrete blocks, it stands 7.5m high, on a 16x16m base.
With regard to the second picture, it should be pointed out that climbing of the sculptures is not permitted (a guard arrived after some time and stopped people climbing).…

Yesterday we had a misty morning (same again today). The Optimist enthusiasts were out on the water at French Bay, practicing their capsize manoeuvres. (The big star on the sail is the sponsor’s mark: Southern Cross Travel Insurance.)…
These sculptures by Gregor Kregar are on display in the grounds of the TSB Bank Wallace Art Centre. Constructed from acrylic sheet and aluminium – almost all faces being triangles.
