Peace Day

International Peace Day, Titirangi

September 21 is International Day of Peace, declared in 1981 by the UN General Assembly. This year’s theme is the “Right of Peoples to Peace”. (The proclamation and celebration is the easy part).

Titirangi celebrates with a display of “Peace Poppies” in the colours of the rainbow. To the best of my knowledge, these poppies (in red) made their first appearance in an installation by Cristina Beth for Anzac Day 2013, repeated and expanded 2014, and now incorporated into a message for Peace Day, again on the Titirangi roundabout.
