Manawa Wetlands, New Lynn

The Manawa Wetlands in Margan Avenue, New Lynn, is a “constructed wetlands”. It captures the stormwater runoff, and through natural filtration holds back some of the contaminants, allowing cleaner water to flow off into the Rewarewa and Manawa streams and from there into the sea.

On this visit, the yellow kowhai trees were in fine flower; ducks, mainly mallard, were also around, as was one male Paradise Shelduck.

My picture in April (captioned Manawa Wet(?)lands) showed a rather sad and dry pond. Meanwhile we had plenty of rain …
