This laser cut silhouette by local artist Paul Woodruffe stands at the corner of Great North Road and Rosebank Road in Avondale. For the weekend’s Avondale Arts Festival the woman received some adornments in her hat.
There was a second piece, entitled “The 1950’s Man”, who stood next to the Avondale spider overlooking the racecourse – but that has disappeared some time ago.
According to a page by the Avondale Community Action, the man was looking to the past, while the woman and child look to the future. The base of our figure reads: “Making Avondale the best we can be”.
