Ruru (Jeremy Shirley)
This is one of the murals painted by Jeremy Shirley in this year’s “All Fresco” event of the K-Road Business Association. Sitting in somewhat cramped quarters, but looking out with piercing eyes, this is a portrait of a morepork (ruru, ninox novaeseelandiae), New Zealand’s only owl species.
Seen from the carpark corner Karangahape Road/ Gundry Street.

Very vivid!
The eyes are fabulous!
The eyes actually look they are made of glass. Fascinating. Your description makes me wonder why there is only one owl species in NZ. Just as fascinating. Thanks for contributing to this week’s Monday Mural.
