… two girls by the water, and one car in the water. A sad story unfolded since Friday afternoon, when this car was driven onto the soft mudflats of French Bay, and did not make it out when the tide came in. The second picture shows the situation on early Saturday afternoon, more or less at low tide, when the tide had flooded the car twice already. There are only 26 minutes between the top picture and the one at the bottom – showing how rapidly the water rises.
In the course of Saturday afternoon, a second car tried to help the first car out, unfortunately also striking difficulties. That second car was able to be towed to dry land, but not without getting wet. And another night submerged in the water for the first car…
If there is a lesson, it is that driving on sand is dicy enough, driving onto mudflats — well just don’t even think about it!
I have reported on a similar event at Armour Bay five years ago.
