Barnes Dance, Queen and Victoria Streets

The intersection of Queen and Victoria Streets is controlled by a system called “Barnes Dance“: all traffic lights switch to red, and pedestrians cross in all directions (also known as “pedestrian scramble”, “X crossing”, “diagonal crossing”). Named after traffic engineer Henry Barnes who first introduced this method in Denver Colorado in the 1940s.

It can get crowded in the centre…

    The only place here I can think of that they did that was in Toronto. I don’t recall if it was a pilot project or permanent.
