On the prowl at Aotea Square. An ice rink (and ice slide) is opening today on Aotea Square, complete with polar bears, penguins and seals (the latter were not installed yet when I came past a few days ago – made by Rawstorne Studios).

Well, according to NZ convention, winter started on June 1. And the temperatures have dropped on cue, as have many of the leaves of this Tulip tree at the New Lynn Community Centre.

Autumn was long, dry and warm – but now winter has set in and finally the fungi make their appearance. Juist a small sample of what I came across in a local reserve. (I am no mushroom expert, my identifications are a bit vague.Foraging purely for visual delight — not for the palate.)
