At the “Rocket Park” playground in Mount Albert one finds apair of rather tall Wonder Trees (Idesia polycarpa) – and right now they are laden with their grape-like pendents of bright red berries.

You guessed it: it’s a weed (introduced plant which spreads easily). Native to South East Asia.

On a stroll along the cycle path at Waterview (in the direction of Te Atatu) I encountered this solid structure next to where Oakley Creek enters the mangroves. No idea what its background could be – open to any stories, real or imaginary!

The first Avondale Public Hall (in St Georges Road) was built in 1867 — and shows signs of old age.

From 1931 to 1973 it was the home if the Avondale Public Library. I don’t know what role it plays these days.
