Lake Panorama Reflection

Until quite recently, I did not even know this little lake existed (map). Its geese have featured on this blog already, and this reflection presented itself on a still morning. Very peaceful!

As a point of interest, many scenes of the adventure series Xena Warrior Princess were filmed around here before the area was turned into a very nice residential development.

The Ferry Building

We arrive on the ferry from Devonport, just in time for lunch.

The Auckland Ferry Building was completed in 1912, built on reclaimed land. About 20 years ago it was seriously refurbished, and now is a very proud landmark on Auckland’s waterfront.

Painted Boxes: Grapevines (Ted Rogers)

(Wednesday is for painted boxes.)

This transformer was painted by Ted Rogers in 2008. It is located outside Faracs Grandview Estate Wines at 172A Don Buck Road, Massey. What better subject than grapevines with tempting bunches of ripe grapes!

John and Margaret

John and Margaret

John and Margaret Davy entertain the crowds at yesterday’s Titirangi market (last Sunday of every month, 10am-2pm). Their folk tunes of Irish, Scottish and other backgrounds are a splendid accompaniment to either a cup of coffee or a more vigorous shopping experience. John is the organiser for the performances at the market, and every now and again we get to hear him also in various combinations and styles, here with his wife Margaret, an accomplished player of whistles. A treat.

The Bench

This bench with its elaborate cast-iron decorations is found in the Oratia Cemetery on West Coast Road. Desaturation is a wonderful rust remover!
