Lopdell House, Titirangi
The City Daily Photo theme for the month of March is “My Favorite Part of Town”. In my case that has to be Titirangi, and by coincidence that’s where I live. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants.
The picture shows one of the hubs of our village: the altogether un-village-like Lopdell House, by far the tallest building of its neighbourhood. It houses two galleries ( “Lopdell House Gallery” and the “Upstairs Gallery“), a theatre, some offices including Peter the Barber, and a bakery/cafe (“A Tavola”). Built in 1929 as a hotel, it had a varied history as school for the deaf, teacher training facility, restaurant and other uses, until it now (since 1983) embodies culture with a capital C for the region.
That’s one of my favourite Auckland places too!

I once saw Len Castle at the gallery, but was too awestruck to speak to him
I think our friends drive around us when we first came to NZ and I believe we go through this road. I kind remember this building if my memory is good ( or may be some smiler building around?). It was a quite long time ago, so it must be very distinctive in the area? Quite a view as well.
It looks like a Tuscan scene except for the Norfolk Pine. It looks like you live in a great part of Aukland. Cheers across the ditch.
