Officially, winter has already started. But on the first day of winter I was greeted with these beautiful autumn colours as I was driving back from Huia.

The mellow sun of the late afternoon casts a shadow of the thinning tulip tree onto the brick wall of The Potters Post (strangely, the sign proclaiming the name of the building seems to have disappeared from the front).

This beauty of a fungus was on the steep slope right beside Scenic Drive. Looks quite common, but I don’t have an ID.

Well-nourished from the remnants of felled trees, these fungi (no idea what they are) are signs of autumn. And I was not the only one who liked them – but I did not nibble on them.

Yesterday was the official start of autumn in NZ, so we present a representation of this season that is found above the entrance to the Settlers Country Manor and Gamekeepers Restaurant in Waimauku.

On a walk along Electric Road, I passed the City Garden, where ornaments for the coming Mid Autumn Festival )the festival of moon cakes) were floating on the pond. What caught my eye more, were the fascinating reflection patterns of the rectangular grid of windows of the City Garden Hotel opposite.

On a blustery afternoon a couple of days ago, my car sat under the trees while I was perspiring at the gym. I don’t know what kind of trees they are, but the leaves look rather pretty when they fall.
