Fungal Idyll
A walk on Rangemore Track, looking for fungi, resulted in just one image. Well choreographed fungi on a branch well past its best.
Darts
The Avondale Racecourse contains a number of unexpected gems, only found when you are in the company of a knowledgeable guide like Vince. He showed me the way up the grandstand through an unlabelled door where we found a group of people playing darts: they belong to the Niue Auckland Dart Association and were happy to let us watch the proceedings. Some of their number were absent, playing a tournament in South Auckland. The premises are those of the Cosmos Dart Club and the Niueans have an arrangement with that club for their meetings.

Basque Park, Eden Terrace
This is a very attractive open space in Eden Terrace. The park in its present form was created about ten years ago, designed by landscape architect Ted Smyth. Plantings of nikau palms and circular arrangements of stone make for visual interest. The five rocks incorporated in the water feature symbolise the five stars of the constellation of the Southern Cross.

Liquidambar
Liquidambar trees bring beautiful colour. This was taken along Titirangi Road.
You can find everything at the Avondale Markets. Here a modern-day torture chamber of tattooing implements and the friendly sales team. My interest was limited to the patterns of the lined-up glistening items — must be getting old and staid…
