Wiremesh

I liked the shapes in the damaged wiremesh at Avondale Racecourse – the grounds personnel might not share my view…

The harsh midday sun casts deep shadows between the two “halves” of the Ironbank Building. Looking up from Cross Street/Karangahape Road Car Park.

My Fireworks

We did not stay for the fireworks at the Auckland Lantern Festival, so I had to create my own in the camera.

Staring at the Ceiling

Staring at the Ceiling

We had watched The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel at the Lido and stayed in their lounge for a drink. As I leaned back, staring up at the ceiling, I found that I sat directly under this chandelier, which created interesting patterns of light on the ceiling.

Britomart Colours

Only a small number of the cutout ‘windows’ either side of the underground Britomart Station are occupied by large advertisements. The remainder are a lovely show of soft colour – the beancounters would probably wish for more advertisers.

A Glass of Water

A Glass of Water

Between the sun umbrellas, a few harsh shafts of light hit our table when we had lunch with friends, producing this beautiful heart.

Pohutukawa Roots

Pohutukawa trees thrive in coastal environments, but with the sea views come exposure to wind and weather, and sea: cliff faces can collapse under trees, and water can undermine the shore as in this example at Cornwallis beach: wave action has carved into the soil, exposing life underneath.

Unsalted New Zealand Butter

Unsalted New Zealand Butter

There it lay on the kitchen bench, a 500g block of NZ butter, unsalted. Mrs H is about to embark on some serious baking. The result will be such mouthwatering delights as the ones seen below, to go on sale at the (annual) Swiss Market on Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Danish House, 6 Rockridge Avenue, Penrose. All welcome, see you there!
