Two Giraffes

At the Gibbs Farm. One of the giraffes is a live specimen (one of three that I saw), the other is a corrugated iron sculpture by Jeff Thomson (6x3x1 m). The picture below is of the real thing.

Patiently waiting for their owner at New Lynn’s Merchant Quarter. In a Triumph – same colour (“almond”) as we had in the seventies.

The White Horse (Ben Foster)

The White Horse (Ben Foster)

One of the works at the current Sculpture in the Gardens show at the Auckland Botanic Gardens. This is by Ben Foster, made from aluminium, epoxy and automotive paint.

From the program notes:

Standing majestically, silver-white against the emerald hues of the landscape, The White Horse relies on the interplay of light and shadow, the result is dramatic with the sculptureā€™s silhouette as commanding as the mountainous landscape it resembles.

A View of Whananaki

Still remembering a great holiday at Whananaki. One of our views was of hillsides with grazing bulls.

A Dog Looks out of a Window

… looks out of a window.

The City Daily Photo theme for the month of December is “Looking out”. Click here for more outlooking images.

It was a rainy day, and I had just found a slot on the Lynnmall carpark. “You would not send a dog out in this weather” I was muttering, waiting for a break in the downpour. “My thoughts exactly”, was the reply from across the window next to me.

Charlie

Our neighbours’ Birman cat Charlie wants to move house. He frequently comes visiting, settling in for long sleeps, or inspecting everything new or unusual. Here he found an open cabinet door, surveying the scene from a new vantage point.

Dancing on the Table

We had just finished afternoon tea last Sunday, when I noticed the long shadows cast by our pet pukeko. As one thing led to another, piglet joined in the fun for a spot of shadow-kissing. Within minutes the sun was hiding behind the trees, putting an untimely end to the spectacle.

(Not exactly a new idea…)

Kereru and other Birds

The Original Gypsy Fair, a convention of house trucks/buses, were at Craigavon Reserve on the weekend. No surprise that a fair few tattoos were on display. I specially liked these two: a NZ Wood Pigeon (kereru) in the company of fantails, and NZ’s living fossil, the tuatara in black and white.
