This dramatically lit figurehead is in the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum, Auckland. It stems from the barque “William Manson” which was built in Aberdeen in 1872.

Blue Tugboat

Blue Tugboat

On an America’s Cup raceday, it is fitting to show something on the water. The blue tugboat, seen from Shed 10, with the imported cars behind on Captain Cook Wharf, and container cranes at Bledisloe and Fergusson terminals further back. It is always fascinating to see how these boats can turn on sixpence (or a dime, if that’s your currency).

Emirates Team New Zealand have just won race 11 in San Francisco, one more win and they will have the America’s Cup – in less than an hour, maybe?

Four Optimists

French Bay is the haunt of the Optimist Class sailing dinghies – but on this day their boats had rounded Shag Point for a picnic in Paturoa Bay (Titirangi Beach). Here they are lining up for the return journey.

Seen last Sunday, getting ready for a 29-day Grand World Voyage from Auckland to Hong Kong, via the eastern coast of NZ and Tasmania, Sydney, … . Nice orange lifeboats, best if they can stay in their alcoves for the duration of the trip.

The picture was taken from the Fullers ferry to Waiheke Island, where we walked the Headlands Sculpture on the Gulf exhibition, concluding with a visit of Cable Bay Vineyards. Some pictures in future posts.
