Fluffy

Himalayan Fairy Grass

Himalayan Fairy Grass

The older, less maintained parts of the Waikumete Cemetery are covered with this grass: Himalayan Fairy Grass (miscanthus nepalensis). Like many pretty things, it’s classed as a weed (invasive, clumping).

Here the fluff in the sky competes with the fluff on the ground.

Merchant Quarter, New Lynn

Merchant Quarter, New Lynn

The lettering on the window seems to be a leftover from an event at the end of last month (“Imagining a new park for New Lynn”), and some of what was left in the yet to be leased retail spaces of the Merchant Quarter looked like bits from the “Re-Imagining New Lynn” event some 5 months ago.

As I was staring into the window trying to penetrate the near-empty darkness, all I could see was the reflection of myself and of a blue sky, too good to pass up.

See my growing collection of selfies.

Going Up!

Merchant Quarter

Merchant Quarter

The Merchant Quarter in New Lynn sprouts the first high-rise building in the area. Ten stories of concrete and steel structure are rising up above the McCrae Way car parking building.

Cloud at Night

The Cloud

The Cloud

The Cloud on Auckland’s Queens Wharf was created as FanZone (“Party Central”) by the New Zealand Government for the Rugby World Cup 2011. After the event was over, it was gifted to Auckland City, where it is now a popular venue for a multitude of events.

The structure is almost 180 metres long, and 29 metres wide at the widest, 21 metres wide at the base. “A temporary structure to last up to 20 years”.

Under a Cloud

Mount Eden and Cloud

Mount Eden and Cloud

No, not an eruption of Mount Eden — that happened thousands of years ago. Just a huge cloud towering above the hill (elevation about 190 metres). Seen from Te Atatu Peninsula. The conspicuous building on the right is part of Selwyn Village, Point Chevalier.
