At the Lower Huia Dam

These drains are part of the Lower Huia Dam, one of two earth dams in the Waitakere Ranges (providing water for the city of Auckland). The construction of this dam was completed in 1971. Of the five reservoirs in the Waitakeres, this one has the largest capacity.

(The other earth dam is the Lower Nihotupu dam, and the remaining three dams in the Waitakeres are concrete dams.)

Eight Lamps by David Trubridge

Seen yesterday at Backhouse Interiors as we visited some of the venues of the Urbis Design Day. The lamps are by David Trubridge (“wild nature combines with artistry and design”).

Another set of David Trubridge lamps appeared here.

Getting ready for a day’s worth of inspired design today!

Conglomerate, Armour Bay

Twice a day (or so), the tide washes over this rock formation at Armour Bay, Parau. Numerous little shells find their way into the crevices.

After the Rain

After the Rain

A spider (probably Cambridgea sp) has constructed its horizontal sheet web across one of our bromeliads. Raindrops got caught in the web, and looking down we see the inner leaves of the plant repeated many times.
