The Goalkeeper

When I was walking by the Whau River on Saturday, a couple of local soccer teams were playing at Ken Maunder Park. A minimal number of spectators and a chilly breeze. I think it’s the Lynn-Avon AFC Reserves in Red.

Darts

The Avondale Racecourse contains a number of unexpected gems, only found when you are in the company of a knowledgeable guide like Vince. He showed me the way up the grandstand through an unlabelled door where we found a group of people playing darts: they belong to the Niue Auckland Dart Association and were happy to let us watch the proceedings. Some of their number were absent, playing a tournament in South Auckland. The premises are those of the Cosmos Dart Club and the Niueans have an arrangement with that club for their meetings.

Queen Elizabeth Square

Queen Elizabeth Square

Cricket is an acquired taste – as is the wearing of high heels. I seem to have missed out on both.

Queen Elizabeth Square, Auckland, counting down to another cricket match of the present world cup. The Auckland Council recently sold this Square to developers for 27 million dollars.
