Signs

Motorway signage at the Patiki Road Exit city bound of State Highway 16. The first time that I noticed the logo WR (Western Ring Route – leftmost item for Exit 8B). A dark sky over the city, sunshine in the West.

Frogparking

Frogparking is — according to their website — a complete solution – engage, enforce, enhance and enjoy your parking ecosystem! So if you found yourself guided to a free parking space, it might be thanks to their efforts. Likewise, if you find yourself fined after exceeding your parking time by the smallest of margins, that might well be their technology as well. Pictured is the wireless unit mounted on the ground which communicates comings and goings to a central brain.

This unit (and many more) was at the carpark at Lynnmall; some information about their plans for a VMS (vehicle management system) are on their website.

Dusk

The sun had just disappeared behind me when I reached this vantage point on Scenic Drive. The land and city getting ready for the night, the expanse of the Waitemata Harbour, a hint of the Harbout Bridge and the volcanic Rangitoto Island, all under the fading colours of the sky.

Landmark House

Landmark House

Durham Street East allows a narrow view of the corner of Landmark house on Queen Street. Built in 1928-1930 in art deco style for the Auckland Electric Power Board, who occupied the upper floors until their move to Newmarket in 1968. Since then, major refurbishments of the interior have taken place, retaining some of the historic parts.

Officially, winter has already started. But on the first day of winter I was greeted with these beautiful autumn colours as I was driving back from Huia.

Dandelion

The City Daily Photo theme for the month of June is “Nature”. Many of my photos celebrate the beauty that I see in the natural environment. And this example might also serve as a reminder of its fragility and the need to nurture it…
