On Top of the — Roof Terrace
The last Monday of January is Auckland’s Anniversary Day (175 years this time!), by coincidence, it also fell on Australia Day (26 January every year). Our low key celebration had a more global ambit with a visit by fellow photo blogger jb (of Mainz Daily Photo and (Not the) Nelson Daily Photo fame) and Ms jb – seen here on top of Lopdell House turning our backs to the view as a friendly visitor from Laingholm took a shot for us. Always great to meet up, be it here or overseas!
Whoa! (Jonathan Bowman)
… of a City Daily Photo Blogger: upstanding when others fly away with their umbrellas …
jb of NotTheNelsonDailyPhoto and, main(z)ly, of the MainzDailyPhoto is in town with Ms jb, and we had a most enjoyable get-together. First visiting the Harbourview Sculpture Trail at Te Atatu, then relaxing with friends Ingrid and David, food, drink, and stories.
The sculpture by Jonathan Bowman is entitled “Whoa!”, a photograph on steel.
The Harbourview Sculpture Trail is open until March 30. Go there!

The cup is empty
to dinner for coffee last week?
Between cups of double espresso and fine meals in exotic places, washed down with IPA, our friend jb, globetrotter extraordinaire (occasionally from Mainz, where he is the eye and the voice of Mainz Daily Photo) found time for, you guessed it, another double espresso with us at the Hardware Cafe. Much enjoyed the renewed contact before he had to be off to the other end of the world. Till next time!
JB Surveying Kreuzstrasse
Meetings between Mainz and Auckland have become a fine tradition over some 18 months or so (see here and here and here), and the most recent one succeeded against huge odds. This time on German soil, in Bad Kreuznach, and in an extended setting.
I have yet to determine how brother-in-law Martin who had never met jb, figured that the somewhat jet-lagged person sticking out of the crowd could be no other than Mr MainzDailyPhoto, guiding him and Mrs jb to our meeting place. But then, jb is one in a million!
The suggestion to move on to the Brauwerk was superb, and a good time was had until well after dark. May there be many more such occasions!

… hiding another?
Twin bro jb was in town at the tail end of his New Zealand visit. Briefly but cordially, we had a get-together with partners at the Siren in South Titirangi Road. Good coffee, tea, smoothie as the case may be, and above all good company. Always a delight.
jb used to show off the German city of Mainz in the Mainz Daily Photo blog, and still blogs on
most anything everything at youmustbefromaway.com.
At Piha Cafe
There is his story, and there is my story, we’ll see if they match up!
His story (jb’s that is, storyteller extraordinaire) appears simultaneously with this post on Mainz Daily Photo.
Two City Daily Photo bloggers and spouses from opposite sides of the globe (in more ways than one), meet up in Titirangi, and click. Off to the Piha Cafe, where we arrived just in time before closing; but their staff were most accommodating, letting us sit and chat and they even recorded the occasion for us (Nikon in Mainz, Panasonic in Auckland). Eventually, chairs on tables signalled time to head to the beach for a walk in the late afternoon.
Could have gone on forever.
